Starting my new page off with some pics of last months finds. The best being yesterdays 1834 sixpence. Hard to believe as we were all just posting our oldest coins, whats the chances of that.. Im still buzzing. Not to mention the two 1950 half crowns. A nice GOLD piece would of topped off last months finds, found only Gold plated treasures.
My favourite is the fish lure and the William IV 1834 sterling silver Sixpence. (sounds good doesnt it).

The silvers. Amongst these is an 1882 french 50 cent, 1908 sixpence, 1834 sixpence and my first nz silver shilling a 1942


The two 1950 Half Crowns. Two badges and a button


Some very old copper treasures here. The love heart brooch appears to be made of copper sheets id say and the sailing boat one appears to be possibly plated tin im not sure.

Hard to get a closeup on my 34... thats 1834


Items found at the first stop yesterday. The rock looking thing dings silver but its heavy. Ill have to chip into it a bit to find out what it is.

Couple of nifty beach finds there. Petrified wood is cool. Cant wait to you get here wednesday. We will work thru the day and hunt of a night.

dude that is an impressive collection just one this page wow !!! Love the wee cap gun its very cool and holy shit 1834 mate you just equalled Karl's and the oldest coin I know of being found my a treasure hunter in NZ!! Damn you hahaaa but shit that is cool!

I know. Probably just drowned everyones hopes of finding an old silver and set the limit very low. I want to find earlier and i know there out there.

#64 and #65 Trip. Work and fossicking with Chrisyboy.

#64 trip. Two days work and fossicking. We were so worn out that day two was slow for us. Between the heat and the hunting it was neally too much, but we battled on to find treasures.We hit a few places but Chrisyboys spot to go was the best. An old time beach with a big wall in front of it which trapped all the coins where we could find them. We found 38 coins of which 12 were pennys and wait for it, another 1950 Half Crown. That makes three 1950 half crowns in a week. Hard to believe i know but persistance payed off. The earliest penny was a 1908. We were looking for Chrisyboys first pre 1900, so close. A half crown, a1946 sixpence. 38 coins all up.

#65 trip. Totally worn out from the day/night before we toned our second day down to a short buzz around my kneck of the woods. Hit the site for a couple of coins then went to, hmmm, lets say a local park area. Ding ding, straight into the loveheart knecklace. By the time i started digging a small crowd had cottoned onto us and circled around. Bling, there it was, a silverish love heart in full view of the small crowd. Every one was google eyed by now, i swung the detector again and ding straight onto a small ring, the crowd was impressed and so was Chrisyboy and myself. Time for the crowd to go so we kicked back for a bit and one guy brought us a ring too look at which he recently found snorkeling. He dragged as much info out of us as he could and then left, probably to buy a detector..
What a cool time we had, Cheers Chrisyboy. 2 goldies, 3 coins all up, a ring and a kneclace.

Everyone was google eyed by now

I think the reason that you are getting so many 1950 Half Crowns is because it was a good year - My mother would have told you that! It was the year all her dreams came true and the nightmare began!

Hi there Ash-T. That silver half crown is a hard one to find. Ive found three of them, all 1950's, and that was last week. This one spot we only buzzed half of it so i would say its holding more for sure. The half crown i found here was in a hole with a bunch of pennies. Took a while to clean it out.

Nice avatar you got there Guardian, I was wondering what you looked like.. That 1965 english half penny was found here in the bay by Chrisyboy under a tree near a beach. Its in really good condition and looks neat as it has a sailing ship on it.

#66 TRIP. A Local Hangout
Finished off the spot where i found the last ring. 3 coins and a spoon.




#67 TRIP. An Old Beach
Finished off this spot out near opua as well. We found a half crown here last time and heaps of pennys. We didnt leave too much, a 1910 penny, a 1960 shilling, a 1965 sixpence which i left in CLR over night with two goldies..oops, (not in the pic) they came out fine and an unrecogniseable old silver coin, blackened by time. So far i no its at least a silver english threepence. I dont think i will get a date out of it but im working on figuring out which head is on it, that will give me some idea. 2 goldies, 1 silver 3p, one penny, 1 sixpence, 21 coins all up. Found one coin in the sea wall.

Shane an English sixpence is about 19mm and a 3 pence 16mm diameter
if that helps. I have had some success with white vinegar as a cleaner on
silver coins but you got to keep an eye on it.

Cheers lucky the light was good *8^P
Since it was going to be so small I didn't finish it but here it is a little bigger.
Chimp was holding a gun so had to move a finger that was in the trigger - replaced with Pro-pointer
Park is just down the road. Was a bit of fun..... and I haven't been able to go for a hunt soooo I had nothing better to do!

You guys are finding some pretty interesting stuff, keep it up!

Coin and Find Update

I do believe my latest silver coin find is an 1867-1879 english silver threepence. Took a few days of staring at it plus some google searching but i think i figured it out. It was the ear like lobes on the crown that gave it away and the left facing figure head. A young Queen Victoria.
I have three of these blackened by time silver coins and i leave them as they are for they are too hard to clean without major damage. Plus they have that old look which is cool.

Approx finds so far.

20 rings
31 pennys (one being a 1854 penny token)
20 silvers (of which 4 are pre 1900) 34 67 82 95
47 foreigns
3 half crowns
approx 1000 coins all up
