My other half is involved with Remarkable Theatre and is in (and organising) a local production "Greed, Glamour & Grudges - Tales of Gold".

8 performances are being held in the Queenstown Gardens from Friday thru Sunday (Friday at 6pm and 8pm, Saturday and Sunday at 2, 4, and 6pm).

The show depicts scenes from the early days of the Wakatipu gold rushes in the 1860s.

A further show is to be held at the gold mining centre in the Cromwell Gorge on Feb 21st.

Shows will also be held in October for the 150 anniversary celebration of the gold rushes in Arrowtown.

The writers have researched thoroughly help the help of Arrowtown Museum's director David Clarke.

Malcolm Mackay, who has written a history of the Earnslaw has written a segment on Bully Hayes also.

The shows are free. Gold coin donations are welcome.

I'm not usually one for plays and the like but i think this one might be worth checking out.

on the topic of the 150th celebration the national gold panning champs is also to be held in Arrowtown this October, as opposed to it's usual Cromwell site.

That sounds fabulous Simon - I dont usually use that word - it sort of sounds like what you might expect form a Caftan wearing poofta but it does sound good.

I reckon the 150th could be made to be an amazing event with appropriate displays of mining materials and equipment - dont make it PC! I think that there were many happenings up there which would make good melodramatic re enactments and most entertaining for visitors and all.

When abouts in October is the 150th - Is it Labour weekend when everyone is doing their own thing or before then?

i think a bit is still to be confirmed.

ironically, apart from the gold panning champs no mining is to take place.

if only someone had a hydraulic sluice gun to blast some terraces with.

Funny that as I have got a hydraulic sluice gun! - I have been thinking of lugging it back to my place for some nefarious purpose but need a new nozzle section for it...to the best of my knowledge the nozzle for mine is in a garden in Clyde and the old nozzle department on it is an old one which had lain in the grass too long and rusted through.

i take it the nozzle needs to be quite strong as this is the part under a lot of pressure. would any old nozzle still be able to cope with pressure?

my sister's fiancee works in a forge!!!
