Big Brother? - you wait - you aint seen nothing yet - when Big Brothers Big Brother takes over then it will get worse - it is a bit of an engima though - get a DOC permit to hunt and go take your shovel, rifle and in your pack your lunch, pan and other gold fossicking gear and as sure as eggs are eggs you will be as guilty as sin until your expensive lawyer proves you innocent - and you wont get no compensation - thats the paradox of the justice system.
I can just see it - half baked mongrel picnicker who just wants a bit of publicity and limelight at anyone elses expense texts 111, reports an evil looking cretinous person with a shovel and rifle heading into the bush and what do the police do - they call armed offenders in Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin, get them all together so that they have the overkill factor on their side and when you are outnumbered 100 to 1 they will silently stalk the bush and then when they find you create the most melodramatic scene you have ever seen, all dressed like Darth Vader, poking guns in your ear, up your arse, in your mouth and anywhere else they can think of, arrest you - heres the good part - they carry you out of the bush by chopper - free ride at least! Grill you down at CIB tell you that your an evil scumbag, tell you that you are cultivating dope, tell you that you have hidden it somewhere, tell you how guilty you are and finally let you go after a great deal of humiliation and being made to feel small by Gestapo like bullies who love picking on others.
I dont think you have a chance - give up fossicking and take up tiddly winks!
There are of course other options - grow dope and give backhanders to select people in authority or become a member of the Gestapo!
