Borrowed a Garrett Ace 250 off a mate, and hit the local rugby park. After 3 hours I had managed to find $26plus in coins and lots of rubbish. Plenty of areas still too search.



Addictive much!!!

Looking at local church and fair site 2mrw mornin. Still insure of settings to use. Had it on COIN and elminated foil and iron. Would that setting still pick up gold rings?

wellcome to the forum...and great hunting...thats not a bad run for 3 hours.way to go.posibly but gold rings run at low numbers depending on how big and thick it is....i found one with my goldbug and it rang in at between 52 to 54...but my wedding ring comes in at about 72...

I found that hitting playgrounds especially swings are the easiest places to find the goldies ($1&$2)
try looking about 3 metres out front and back and work your way in, if the swing has that plastic matting and you hit a target still dig as often the coin will be sitting on top, I've found plenty of $1 coins actually in the cut out circles.
Good start to getting your own detector, my first hunt I only found $3 of course that was in my backyard *8^)

Hi there Kauri and welcome to the forum.
By discrimating out the foil you have probably unknowingly missed good targets. Signals around the foil range vary from foil, coins and gold. I hunt in all metal mode with my 350 and sometimes switch to jewelry mode when the going gets tough which discriminates out the iron only. It can be demanding digging those foil targets but you will be regularly rewarded.

Hey found another $5 and alot more rubbish today, with MD set on all metal. Gonna sell some other toys and look at buying my own machine, plus a hand held pin pointer. Spoke to local council and they are fine about it, as long as i replace turf back. Shaaaaaaaaaaaaweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet!!

Most people will say use all metal and dig everything, you will soon get a good feel for the machine.
I tried that and found that the previous people here never threw out the old savlon and toothpaste metal tubes there are literally hundreds around the property.

I think most of us dig 3 sides and lever out the plug, I cut round plugs but leave a flap that way the grass has a better chance of survival. I also use a piece of material to put the soil on so it makes it easy to put the soil back in the hole and is very hard to see that I have been there. A pinpointer and a good digging tool make the experience much faster and easier.
You will have all types of people stopping you and asking you what you're up to, be friendly as you never know what information someone might give you. One of the first people I met happened to be another member from here.
keep a couple of old decimal coins or junk with you, makes it easy to show people and make them lose interest, if you think they are genuine you can show them the good stuff.

Even tho i hunt in all metal mode i dont dig everything unless im on a beach. I like to hear all the sounds of wots under the ground so i can be in better touch the dig site. Over time i am learning wot targets not to dig. From memory i think we all dug every hit at first and that is the right thing to do as far as a learning curve is concerned.

It makes you wonder what that coin has seen before it got buried. My oldest Penny is 1897 and it's a cool feeling to hold that bit of history.

Managed a 1946 and 1949 ONE Penny this avo with 3 kids helping. Quite chuffed till we got home and the 7year old hands me a $2 coin he'd found on the ground at the park...... he never said a word till we got home......Didnt need the MD dad lol

kids are funny that way....my son says..hey dad i got a signal..mean while he has the MD swung sidways instead of flat to the ground..lmao...it was my boots he was detecting as they are steel toed...hahaha

hi there detector bugs
ive got a eureka gold minelab had it for about five years ran the battrey flat for the first time so you can see i dont use it much
are they any good????
got a couple of pieces of no8 wire but the person beside me got 3 good size nuggets and some small pieces of gold
is it my method or are the eureka gold just shite
heaps of knobs on it

A quick test would have been to get the successful person beside you to check over the ground where you found nothing.
