Have been up here for a week or so......have tried the Aorere a couple times and the Baton also in a couple spaces. Have found bugger all eg not even a quarter of the base of our bottle. Are we trying in the wrong spot or do u think we have sluice set up wrong? Anyone in the area that would be keen to show us how its done would be greatly appreciated. Plz reply or pm me or txt 0273700293. May try the Wangapeka today. We just would love to get even just one flake. The one thing that does make all the gas money and bug bites worthwhile is the beautiful countryside.....we love the native bush......much better than a earthquake torn town and a slowly deteriating house!

I hear from a few people that Canvastown (think its in Pine Valley) is worth a shot if you can make it there. The campsite there advertises gold panning and I think they have a claim on the river. Have not been there myself but if you are looking for colour then it may be worth a look?

I have stayed there before I was interested in gold panning. It's a bit far away from here but thank you for the suggestion. We may go that way on the way home so mite stop in.
