Hi everyone!

Just thought I might introduce myself as being one of the new guys.

My name is Craig, I'm 20 and I live in amberley about 30k north of Christchurch.
I've been gold fossiking on and off my entire lives. I originated from the coast. Now I live in amberley with my wife and 1 year old son.

I was searching around on the internet for sluice box plans and came across this forum and found it quite helpful so I joined.

I am taking a week off work next month and we are going to head to the coast and pitch our new tent and do some sluicing for a few days. I'm trying to build a wooden sluice at the moment because I can t afford a new one!

Anyway I hope to get some valuable info from people on here.

Welcome to the forum - I like to hear that people still make their own gear - often as not home made gear is every bit as efficient...and more so depending on conditions and situations than a lot of very expensive commercial gear. Good luck when you go over to the Coast - its a grand place to be though changed a great deal since I lived there.

Hi Craig,

I have used all manner of machinery over the years. The old wooden sluice box still recovers a fair amount of gold - it is me who ran out of the motivation to lug it up and down creeks!
Having said that, I lugged a 20 litre container full of black sand up out of the Buller the other day for a demonstration I am doing at the Tapawera A&P show coming up (after doing that I remembered I am not as young and fit as I once was!).
Good luck with your West Coast venture.

Welcome Craig,

Hope you get some good colour when you get to the coast.

Although I've never used one some told me a cradle or rocker is also good

to use and is also made from wood.
