A couple of months ago I decided to go panning for gold. The first spot I tried produced several nice pieces of gold per pan so several days later I returned with a small sluice box. Within an hour I had run out of the gold bearing gravel and started to strike old workings, I guess I was just lucky in striking a small area the old fellas had missed. The area I worked was just a small gutter in the parpa that run parrel with the creek but was up out of the creek. I have spent several days since panning in the local creeks but have not even come close to finding colour like that again. cheers Westcoaster

Great going - once you have begun the gold mining journey you never look back and so theres more there for you to find yet - what is the weight you have there - the bottle could be big, the bottle could be small and you have nothing there to compare with so it is hard to tell how much you have there - regardless of that - any Gold is good gold.
Great going and may there be much more for you to find in the years ahead.

Thats really good - so nearly half an ounce - you would have been thinking that if that kept up you would be one rich in no time..its a sod when you get onto a nice patch and then it runs out. Many years ago now I saw some lovely clean gold like that from Big River near Reefton and was impressed with the size of the 'flakes' as they were more like flakey nuggets and yours reminded me immediately of that gold.
How do you highlight the words with yellow?

So was the spot easy to get to or was it a bit of a mission in to the arse end of nowhere?

In the box where you type if you select the text using the left mouse button then clicking the 4th button in the menu (next to add pictures etc) that has an ab(pen) on it, when you post it should be highlighted.

I have been back since and spent a full day in the area but could only find old workings. I havn't tried the creek itself but just presumed it would be full of fine tailings from all the workings in the area, I guess I should try to dig down to the bottom of the creek and try a pan or 2.
