Hi there ytb8ta7, Thank you very much for the plug on my sluice box. Very much appreciated. I take it you are finding some gold with it?? That is great. Did you get a box with the flare or with out. I have a couple of flares here at the moment if you would be interested in one.
They have the advantage of easily being detached from the box & the flare sits sideways in the box to fit easier in your backpack. It also inceases the the length of your box giving more time & distance for the goods to seperate out & the flare creates a cross over current which makes a good drop out zone where the two currents meet. Also gathers more water in to your box if the creek you are in has very low water flow like creeks I play in up here in the Coromandel. In the below photo I had to dam the whole creek & I even taped builders polythene to the top lip of the flare to get a total seal so all the water went down the box. You will notice the cross over current in the pic. Could do with more ribbed matting with the flare attached so that cross over current is on the matting.

Result

Happy hunting & thanks again.

hi john. yes i am finding gold with it. i have added an extra bit of ribbed matting as its good to see something as ya workin. would like to get a flare from ya in the newyear when finances allow. i notice how the water cross over creates a dropout zone when water flow coming into box isnt square on and you get a line of yellow collecting down that line. great stuff that gold.
