I have no idea how others see this thread but comments are welcome as I have got to the stage now where I might consider stopping it - I was going to show a selection of bottles, Chinese Jars and Gold field long arms used for guarding the gold and 'protecting ones interests' if the interest is there.

Well I for one, am really enjoying your posts, Graham. Would love to see more but I understand the amount of work/time it must take you to do so. Hopefully the others feel the same way.

I really look forward to reading all your posts Graeme, especially these ones, and to seeing your treasures-so please keep up all the good work.If one enjoys is looking for gold (in my case largely unsuccessfully) it is great to have some artifacts that remind one of what life must have been like for the original diggers. There might have been lots more gold around but life would have been so tough.Chris

Dont you dare stop now Lammers!
Posting stuff you have found brings it all to life-I for one cant even begin to imagine the hardships endured by the old timers.
Found a boot once detecting a sluice face and wondered what happened to the bloke it belonged to-did he find the big one and not have to worry about his boots anymore?Or did he meet with a sticky end and if Id looked a bit harder I would have found the leg that went in the boot?

Keep em coming I say!

Most of us are the silent majority. We read it all, but say little, probably under the impression that most people probably don't want to hear what we have to say anyway.

Last count for this thread 10,286 visits.

That is quite a large tribe.

Most politicians hold their jobs with smaller measures of support than that.

I for one always read what you have to say. Whether I agree with it or not is another matter.

Looking forward to the next installment.

Hi Lammerlaw. This page is awesome and we hope it continues. The effort required to formulate a proper post takes time, patience and pation. You obviously love posting as much as i do so dont worry about low replys as that does not mean that one doesnt have a great page. All good.

P.S. This would make a great book.

I really enjoy your posts too Keith. Sometimes there's not much to be said in way of a reply but the info and knowledge you share is invaluable. Thank you both.

To all those who commented positively much appreciated - it actually sort of saddens me going into hidden cupboards looking out things I had long since forgotten I owned and havent got anywhere to display it so when it goes away its for another ten years.

This is the one and only complete pipe I have ever found - it is one of the common 'Ben Nevis' 'Cutty' pipes. A friend of mine also found one and like mine was found in a niche in the wall of an old hut in Central Otago

I keep looking for the West coast Stories so hopefully there will be some to read before too long Keith - I found them great value - went out the back the other day - David and I got 8 grammes...its raining like rain went out of fashion here so I think that the weekend is going to be another washout.

I love it Kiwisouth - if someone wrote a book posting my adventures and accounts I would have to counter it with the unabridged version...it would be far better reading...but the date of the book opening would coincide with my passage to South America!

A little nugget all crystalline in shape with sharp edges - discovered in the area where a number of unworked reefs are known to exist. Its about four grammes I think.

Nice nugget Graham, I've found a few with some quartz in them now but none have been nice specimens like this.

Thanks Matt - it is nice but nothing like the one I found years ago but decided to separate the Quartz from the gold with disastrous results and a series of smaller nuggets instead of a nice solid quartz/gold sample.

From a reef just discovered I include this sample - its one of quite a few we have so far - the nugget in the quartz is about 10mm across.
