Hi All I have just joined and looking forward to many jears of fossicking and making great new friends. Im 47 and married with 3 kids, we live out in Amberley just north of Christchurch. I had a small engineering firm but with a doggy heart I have had to colse it down for a while. I also built my own motorcycles and did alot of motorcycle racing but Im not alloud to do this anymore due to the doggy ticker as well (gutted I cant compete in the Greymouth Street Racing this year) but all that is kool
I have always been keen on fossicking and treasure hunting so now I making it my hobby and really looking forward to it. Lots more trips to the coast now,
I have just brought a Garrett AT Pro detector and a Garrett Pro Pointer so I hope these are good detectors?. anyway hi again and Im looking forward to meeting you all and making some good friends.
Off to Nelson Creek labour weekend, cheers....Stu

Welcome aboard Stu - I got my driving licence up that a way once and it was issued by Kowai County Council...is that Amberley? I was at Ashley Forest back in the NZFS days when Kiwiland belonged to Kiwis!
Hope you have lots of fun and success with the metal detector - they are a lot of fun and you will find that a lot of the blokes on here who have them are finding heaps of things ranging from trash to genuine treasure- coins, medals, jewellery and a heap of other things...this site will give you some great ideas of the types of places where you might find coins etc and for gold nothing better than good exposed bedrock and along the cracks and crevices in that bedrock.

Do you mean the High country place in the hills or the lifestyle block down the road from where I live...or maybe worked on both.

Yes its me - and where is the old mans cannon...tell him I want it for my collection...yesterday...I havent seen him lately...I think hes hiding from me...ten minutes ago I noticed a photo of his mudda in law in Waimate amongst a lot of photos taken at a re union.

Actually its funny you writing and mentioning Opossums at this precise moment as I had just put the phone down after telling a bloke that I just remembered I had a sack of fur here - somewhere in amongst the shit, trash and carnage....I suppose the weevils have written it all off by now.

I was through Amberley the other day - actually I got a feed of Fish and Shit at a shop not in Amberley but not far away and it tasted as though some bastard had piddled in it! My daughter who is an animal wanted to go back and make a scene but I didnt really wanted to create a scene such as the locality has never seen...I was going up to Picton to drop her off and have a look at a boat I am keen on and on the way home visit someone we know.
I worked up at Waipara a little with the NZFS at a place called Omihi - we were having a burn off there - it was a beaut and like all our burn offs it went the wrong way and burnt the trees...great days.

Before you go out hunting have heaps of practices in the back yard away form the house and nails and junk that accumulates aorund homes. Put coins etc on the ground and get used to'finding' them and when you feel confident that you can more or less differentiate the sounds get someone to hide them then try to find them. Look in back yards and local parks, picnic spots and a good spot was under where old swings used to be.
