I wonder how many people there are in Dunedin on this forum or at least people with detectors here, met two guys on my last two hunts that have detectors but apparently aren't using them. I've pretty much done every playground here (around the hot spots) and have noticed more and more plugs. Beach hunting isn't an option with the ATGOLD so I might get an ATPRO but that is a few ring finds away yet, maybe just a bigger coil to begin with!

Yeah that's my I'm bored park. I know of two other members that live very close to there, wonder if it was them.
Talked to a fellow from Delta the other week and apparently there are 110 parks/playgrounds in Dunedin so plenty to go around just a shame those darn eftpos cards are slowing the replenishment rates!

Yeah I bet the eftpos cards will have made a difference! I gew up in Brighton and when I was a kid there was a story about a stash of antique knives buried in the bush that we played in. I have no idea how true it was but we spent hours digging holes all over where we thought they could be. I always wonder if its worth checking out one day with the detector. Not much has changed in the area.

You won't see me around parks much. I've been on isolated beaches for the last dozen or so outings. This last week of outings I've found very little except 10 kilos or so of lead, a couple of kilos of brass and copper. Here is an old button I found. NZ rail, found at a place called Roseneath a few days ago. Before that I was at Broad bay and had more luck with old coins but they only old pennies and half pennies no silvers. Still love being out and about.

Went out for a hunt today at a place called Oyster Bay, past Broad Bay, Dunedin on the Otago Peninsula. It has a wee island that I waded out to and metal detected around the base. Found an 1862 penny,a few other pennies and a 1934 threepence. Plus what looks to be a solid brass whistle with numbers on it "7064 MSTP". Photo has the few coins I have found today and at Port Chalmers too. Can't work anything out about the silver shilling from Port Chalmers. Giving it a soak in ammonia. Might take a year the state its in! Action shot of my minelab taking on the crabs!

I have decided to display my finds, at least the ones I can be bothered displaying, in a more efficient manner. My aim was twofold: to protect the finds so I wasn't handling them all the time and the other reason was to be able to record where and when I found each item. I want to build up an ecletic display album so each page is interesting, and is not just coins. For other larger items like my various bullets and other stuff I will have to think of some other way.

Hi Tonz,

Just a note re your whistle - it is actually a crimp type cable joiner as used by electricians. 7064 is the cable size.
Can't remember what the other letters mean.

Thanks metalkiwi! I was hoping it was a type of boson's whistle! I spent ages hunting the numbers on the internet, and it was like no whistle type I could find! It sure cleaned up real nice, and it whistles!

No, I haven't been down to St Kilda or St Clair since Christmas. Sand looks like it's come back. I'm sticking to rocky beaches, mud flats at the moment. I'm finding at least 10 pieces of scrap metal for every coin! Still I have plenty of lead, copper, brass to sell again. I'm selling scrap about every two weeks. Getting about $40 to $80 each time. I'm even dragging the iron off the beach for selling. And yes I find at least two or three lead nail heads each time! Money for nothing with scrap metal. And with the lead at least by removing it I'm improving the environment. Cut myself nasty on Saturday with a piece of copper I was trying to shove into my catch bag around my waste; blood was streaming down a long slice along my finger. Took ages to seal itself. Sea water probably helped. Didn't put me off my detecting.

Hi, Found a productive beach today with lots of pennies, a couple of half pennies and part of a fob watch. I would like to say its gold, but I don't know whether it is or not. I was finding lots of targets and a bonanza of lead, copper and brass scrap too which I like. I kept expecting to pull out a sovereign. Maybe next time.

Tonznz I have found 2 of those watch plates. Both mine were silver and had
small hallmarks on them. From that I was able to trace the brand and year.
