Hi all,

Good gold can be won by keeping an open mine while detecting.

On one trip to the moonlight I was heading back to the car with very little gold to show for a weekend detecting.

The main track that I was on opened up and a noticed a very small amount of bedrock showing, about half a square meter,

Curiosity got the better of me so i turned on the detector and heck a nice sound rang out.ID said yep so I scrached away and unearthed a small 1.4 nugget, that was the gas paid for. I now had a little spring in my step heading back to the car.

4 x4 access tracks down to the river are sometimes covered by old river stone,I have found lots of small gold on these 4x4 tracks that have saved the day.

While most easy access hot spots have been very well done over take a little time to confirm it,some of the easiest gold that I have detected has been within meters of a main track.

The beauty of detecting is that no water, heavy pumps, hoses ect are required to do your thing,so on that note swing it whenever you can.

Happy detecting

Steve

Good to know - I thought I was going to have to start hiking into the middle of nowhere every time I went detecting from now on. Though I guess you probably find a lot less rubbish the deeper in to the bush you go.

Same thing detecting anywhere. As soon as my detector is on, it's swinging.. Hate my Quattro, the old Sovereign still finds stuff except I can't use headphones with it. There is a book out , Getting the best out of your Quattro, written by an American fella, which gets great reviews overseas but no one here, even in the Te Tahi Detector club in Auckland, has a copy.

Keep scratching
