Hi LepreSean,

I think the only way the government would reinstate the miner's right would be if the group was

backed by a powerful lobby group e.g like the farmers have, which would mean in this case the big mining companies,

threat of revolution and civil war or the masters who control the government giving them permission to do so.

Unfortunately I can't see any of the above happening anytime soon, but you never know.

By the way if we could get the Gold Prospectors Association of America to open a New Zealand branch guess what they would call it!

I'd be keen to join a group that would make a difference, why does it have to be Facebook though?
I refuse to sign up with Facebook, yet its constantly in my face!

Would it really have to be backed by a large corporation?
Enough people actually know how things are and things might change... because until you actually decide you want to go adventuring for the hope of striking it rich and retiring early, do you realise that all the land is basically locked up with overseas corporations, that surely in no amount of time could ever realistically really hope to prospect the huge amounts of land they have set aside!

But no wait! Even when people do show their discontent and show support for reform, they don't listen... they never do! Somehow the status quo needs to change in this country, in fact, the world.

That's interesting about facebook folks.
I thought I was the only one who didn't use it. I can't think of anyone I know in person who isn't on it.
My wife got a new phone for x-mas and pretty much first thing it asked was for facebook log-in details
Bang there ya go all her contacts details including profile pictures all downloaded into her phone.
Clever yes, concerning - very much so.

sure there needs to be some more areas available for the weekend prospector/ fossicker but expecting it just to get handed to you just like that i dont think will happen soon. if theres that many people wanting this then why not get it done yourselves and do what anyone else wanting to achieve this legally has done and apply for an area?
Has anybody looked into maybe forming a club and getting a mining/prospecting licence under the club? after all if its just for fossickers etc im sure there are plenty of areas out there suitable for this after all you are wanting this to persue your hobby and not get rich rite??? so in regards to all of the "good" areas been snapped up by overseas companys i dont think should matter the area only needs to hold small amounts of gold to satisfy this group of people.

Yes thats not a bad idea.......we could perhaps stake a claim and share the costs and charge others who are not "members"for the privelidge or something along those lines. There sure are enough people here in Christchurch (and on here in general) that seem to want such a thing.

Its the new 49er's, http://www.goldgold.com/ Dave has got it pretty well sorted, but im not so sure how many of us would like 20 people working one h/banker in a small hole getting a sniff of a sniff, not my idea of a good weekend away.

Staking a bit of ground is a good idea but how many will actually cough up the green when the time comes to pay for it.

The largest bit of ground taken in the south island is a kiwi owned company, as are a large number of the property holders in the south island.

I was very suspicious of the facebook and only just joined to be in closer contact with some friends, the whole thing made me uneasy, it is really intel gathering for corporates, but it is a starting platform for change, as is this forum, and exposure to a different "market", we will wait and see. :)
