My name is David and I am 73 yrs of age.Despite being married for 52 yrs I am still in very good shape-physically and intellectually! We spend 2 months every year prospecting in the S.I.Usually find enough gold to pay for the trip.I have recently found colour only an hours drive from home in Waitara,so am quite excited about doing some serious searching. Looking forward to being a regular contributor to the Forum. Cheers, NUGGETMAN

Hi David, welcome aboard! :)

Gold near Waitara eh? Cool, first time that area has popped up on my gold radar - thought it was all on the south island and north of the north island. Is there history of gold in the area or do you think you might be the first to find it around there? Think I also read something about a bit being found near Wellington come to think of it.

I am pretty new to this game compared to some of the guys on these forums so haven't quite worked out where all the known areas are - just the well known spots ;)

Cheers,
Gavin

Hi David, Welcome to the forum. It is a shame I am away from home as I have some information on a gold find in that area from the late 1800's. The story went that the prospectors that found it & were working it were chased off by the Maori's & were told they would be killed if they returned. There were also discoveries near Raglan & Kawhia with the same threatning response from the Maori. Apparently some good gold was found.
That should get you excited.
Cool you find enough gold to pay for your trips down south. Do you sluice box, Crevice, Detect, Highbanker, dredge or what??? Look forward to some of your experiances & yarns on your adventures.

Happy hunting

JW :)

Hi, seems there was some gold found around Wellington some time ago too. Can't remember where but that may bear some research
