Hi everyone.
I have just found and joined this site.
I have been prospecting for maybe 30 odd years. Mainly on the West Coast. Just use sluice box and pan on the smaller creeks.
We usually spend a couple of weeks over Xmas there and maybe the odd long weekend after that.
It's really great to find somewhere to discuss our hobby and I look foward to meeting all you here on this forum.

Thanks for the welcome guys.
I'm enjoying reading about your detecting stories. Always had a hankering for one but never really new if they would be any good in NZ. Thought they were more for Aus.
I'll keep you in mind Gavin when I head away next.

Flintlock Well I'm off to the Coast tommorow. Will be based at Goldsborough for a couple of weeks at least. If anyone is heading that way, feel free to drop in and make yourself known. Look for a silver Landcruiser with 'Knights' on the spare wheel. Cheers Ian

Still a bit up in the air regarding plans for holidays at the moment - depends a bit on the lady, but if I get over that way I'll be sure to seek you out! ;) Hoping to get away for a fossick at some point!

Hi Flintlock, Good luck at Goldsborough. I have had some nice finds there with sluice box. In fact the pics of me finding that gold using my Weekend Prospector sluice box on my trademe listing is at Goldsborough.
I have always been a sluice boxer & dredger & highbanker operator but when I gave the detector a real honest go & got away from the water ways....well I have never looked back at the rivers. So much easier on the body, no cold water to deal with & the gold is usualy quite a bit bigger. Which makes it worth while. It is a learning curve.....like all things, but it does become easier & you tend to "know" where to look. The hardest thing for me was to get my mind set away from the water. But when the gold started flowing....I havnt looked back.
